The President and Mullah Nasruddin

As we know, with Putin busy in Moscow, the US has had an Acting President for some time now. And things didn’t stop there, with around half the Cabinet now all Acting.

But now things are going further down. With the resignation (or firing) of Dan Coats as Director of National Intelligence (DNI), there would have to be an acting DNI, which would normally be Sue Gordon, the deputy DNI. But the Acting President doesn’t like her, so nominated somebody proficient in kissing his (insert body part), John Radcliffe. But it turned out that aside from the kissing, Radcliffe had no other qualifications for the job, and was withdrawn 2 weeks later.

Yesterday, Sue resigned, so that there is now no Deputy DNI, so the Deputy Deputy DNI would now have to be the Acting DNI. That person has been named, and is already in hot water, so who knows, we may soon be at the Deputy Deputy Deputy DNI level.

Which brings me to Mullah Nasruddin (MN), who I have written about before. If you haven’t yet read a collection of MN stories, your education has not been complete. Besides the fun in them, they are also full of wisdom.

So Mullah Nasruddin once got a visitor, who brought a duck with him. MN’s wife made a nice meal for the 3 of them, starting with duck soup, and then a duck dish with biryani. A good time was had by all.

A week later, another visitor arrived who said he was a friend of the man who had brought the duck. Mullah Nasruddin was a gracious host, and his wife served the visitor a soup and some food.

A week later, another visitor showed up who said he was a friend of the friend of the man who brought the duck. MN has a bit annoyed, but nevertheless they gave him some soup and sent him on his way.

And then a week later, another man arrived who said he was the friend of the friend of the friend of the man who brought the duck. Mullah Nasruddin’s wife still served him some soup, but after a few spoonfuls, the man said that the soup tasted almost like water. Yes, said Mullah Nasruddin, it is the soup of the soup of the soup of the duck.

That may also be the state of the DNI and the intelligence agencies now.
