Understanding Talibangelicals

 In his big NBC interview shown yesterday, Dotard said it was a “big mistake” for DeathSantis to sign a 6 week abortion ban. Immediately, numerous pundits speculated that this could cause him to lose a lot of support in Iowa, the first-in-the-nation voters, where evangelicals dominate.


And I thought - when will these guys learn? To use a formulation from an interview Jon Stewart did with one of them some months ago, the Talibangelicals don’t give a “flying fvck” about supposedly religious teaching - it’s all about power.

To learn from the Brothers Karamazov again, if Jesus came back to earth tomorrow and criticized the Dotard, the Talibangelicals and the MAGA crowd would crucify him without a second thought. When you love and worship a rapist and pornstarfvcker, no other religious norms are going to stop you.

To be very clear, this is true of ALL rulers who rely on religion to keep them in power - whether it’s Putin and Orban defending White Christianity, the Taliban in Afghanistan and the mullahs in Iran or Saudi Arabia, the Hindutva goons and the Unholy Trinity in India, or Netanyahu and his extremist cabinet. If any of the Gods they swear by turned up tomorrow and wanted them to change, they would kill those Gods without a second thought.

Marx had it absolutely right (like with so many things). Religion is the opium of the people, supplied in plenty by those who want to rule them.

GQP Gun violence "solutions "

  Here is a partial list of “solutions” proposed by GQP Senators and reps, Fox News pundits, and other rightwing, soulless axxholes yesterday, each followed by my comments in brackets. - Give children bullet-proof backpacks. 1 Senator even suggested parents should buy children those instead of toys.  (They don’t wear backpacks in school. How about full bulletproof clothing? Why not give them full body armour? Heck, after your abortion laws have passed, make baby body armour compulsory - straight from the womb to safety). - why can’t we have security like at airports - with full body and backpack screening?
