Idiots of the Century

Isn’t it amazing that it took Dotard and Jared 3 years to come up with their “Deal of the Century” that you or me could have come up with in a couple of days? Trump said it was the product of a “long and arduous process” making me wonder which idiots were working on it. Of course, we all knew that whatever they came up with would not be worth the paper it was written on. But still I am surprised by just how worthless it is.

Of course, it has been praised to the skies by 2 constituencies:
- the far right in Israel, for whom any Palestinian in the area is anathema
- and the Talevangelicals in the US, Trump’s main base of racists and bigots

And while thise 2 groups have plenty to disagree on, for the moment, both see it to their advantage to support each other. The Israeli far right is well aware that the Talevangelicals consist of 2 types of people:
- those ignoramuses who think the Jews are just a Christian sect and believe in Jesus
- those who think that the Jews, like the Muslims and Hindus and everyone else, are destined to eternal fire when Jesus Christ (or maybe Donald J, Trump?) returns to earth in all his glory.

In case you haven’t read the proposal, it gives Israel everything they want, while asking the Palestinians to accept $50 billion in payment and surrender. Come to think of it, I could have come up with that in about 5 minutes. It dangles a future, possible Palestine, after they have worshipped Bibi and Trump and gone down on their knees for a few years in supplication. And that future Palestine looks like the Bantustans that a dying white South Africa tried to implement in the 80s and 90s.

We know what happened to South Africa a few years after the Bantustan idea collapsed.
I hope the same doesn’t happen to Israel a few years after this stupid deal collapses today. I do think Israel should have a secure place in the Middle East, and the Palestinians need to change and compromise to make that possible - but unconditional surrender will only lead to violence for a few more decades. Those who think that Israel is too strong to fall probably never heard of Rome, or Byzantine, the Ottoman Empire, the British Empire or Hitler. Heck, 40 years ago, nobody thought the Soviet Union could be dislodged, and it was gone 10 years later.

Israel, like the US and so many other places, is a polarized country and I am glad to see that the middle has already rejected the deal. Op-eds and the Editorial page of Haaretz (the NYT of Israel) have criticized the deal.
Their  front-page headline today - Trump’s deal  is ludicrous, dangerous and one-sided.

You cannot say it more clearly than that. Kudos to them for being so frank, though they will now earn the wrath and abuse of the far right in both countries. US Jewish organizations have also criticized the deal as ridiculous and a non-starter. As have the NYT and WaPo, which we know from Trump and the far right are both “Jewish cabals financed by Soros”.

But maybe we are all looking at this wrongly. It wasn’t a deal about Peace for Israel and Palestine. It was a “Deal to keep Dotard and Bibi out of prison”. I don’t think it was announced yesterday by coincidence. Rather, it was meant to take away from the kafkaesque Senate Trial and Bibi’s indictment in Tel Aviv yesterday (unlike the US, Israel actually has a functioning Justice dept and court system).

Only the IDIOTS of the Century could have come up with this.
