1000 years of Communism

In case you haven't seen it, here is the 12 second clip that inspired this post. An Ignorant Man showing his great grasp of history. https://x.com/i/status/1986213496103592011 ------------------------------------ Karl Marx was born around the year 1000, exact date unknown. After attending Universities in Bonn and Berlin, he felt life on the continent was a little boring, so pushed off across the Channel to witness the upheavals there among various noble lords. He spent most of his time reading and writing in the Library of the British Museum, and around 1060 published his seminal work, Das Kapital. His timing was perfect. In 1066, William the Conqueror came over from Normandy and "conquered" England in what is now known as the Normal Conquest. But those were difficult times, with unruly Lords opposing William (or Guillaume, maybe) both in Normandy and England and he was looking for a way to govern these peoples separated by a Channel. He heard about Karl Marx and imme...

Understanding Talibangelicals

In his big NBC interview shown yesterday, Dotard said it was a “big mistake” for DeathSantis to sign a 6 week abortion ban. Immediately, numerous pundits speculated that this could cause him to lose a lot of support in Iowa, the first-in-the-nation voters, where evangelicals dominate. And I thought - when will these guys learn? To use a formulation from an interview Jon Stewart did with one of them some months ago, the Talibangelicals don’t give a “flying fvck” about supposedly religious teaching - it’s all about power. To learn from the Brothers Karamazov again, if Jesus came back to earth tomorrow and criticized the Dotard, the Talibangelicals and the MAGA crowd would crucify him without a second thought. When you love and worship a rapist and pornstarfvcker, no other religious norms are going to stop you. ——————- To be very clear, this is true of ALL rulers who rely on religion to keep them in power - whether it’s Putin and Orban defending White Christianity, the Taliban in Af...

EU’s Greatest Hits

If you like this post, do read others on my blog. It’s free….😀 A couple of years ago there was this discussion about what worthwhile things (If any) the EU has done. I wrote at the time that the EU’s greatest achievement by far (though under appreciated ) was the standardisation of the electric plug and the telephone jack (this was still in the days of landlines and dial-up modems). A business traveller making a trip in the late 80s or early 90s to 3 or 4 countries had to lug around adaptors for plugs and jacks for each country, a real pain somewhere. But then the EU came up with a standard, gave everyone 3 years to comply and it was done. Non-EU countries complied as well, so that soon you had 1 plug and 1 telephone jack for the whole of Europe and much of North Africa. Well, except for the U.K., which even then didn’t consider itself part of Europe, and Switzerland (not part of the EU) which also uses it’s plug and socket as an alcohol test for motorists. Anybody visiting the b...

ELON MUSK STORY

Having fairly completely botched his first week as Chief Twit (that people are already calling Chief Piece of Shxt), Elon is now trying to manage the damage. After his disastrous tweet promoting a disgusting conspiracy theory about the Pelosi break-in from the depths of a rightwing sewer, he took 3 hours to delete it. By then VW, Ford, and dozens of others had “paused” advertising on the new “Shxtter”. Seeing his 44 billion go up in smoke faster than anyone expected, he called me to ask if I would be willing to lead his “Content Moderation Council” or whatever it’s called. I said, “yeah, sure, for a billion or two, I’m willing to do it”.  But for anything less than that, you will have to follow my rules. What does that mean? - God asked. I said, “First, you will only be allowed to tweet once a month. And if your tweet breaks my content moderation rules, it will immediately become once in 2 months. And so on, till you learn how to tweet responsibly” Will you torture me so muc...

FBI Raid

How ironic that the GQP, Fox, the Fox News Journal, and the rightwing hysteria-sphere keeps making 1 big point that they think is amazing -  this is unprecedented, and the first time in 246 years that an ex-President’s house has been raided . They keep stressing - first time, first time, first time, never before, never before….. Well, I have news for these hypocrites. Where were you when a lot of other things happened for the first time in 246 years, and never before. Here’s a partial list to jog your memory  - the first time a President called for an assault on the Capitol - the first time a President tried to throw out election results - the first time a President paid $ 25 million to avoid a fraud conviction with Trump “University” - the first time a President lied 30000+ times in 4 years - the first time a President took the 5th 400 times in 1 day (after saying 5 years ago - “why would anybody take the 5th unless they were guilty?” - a statement that has come back t...

GQP Gun violence "solutions "

Here is a partial list of “solutions” proposed by GQP Senators and reps, Fox News pundits, and other rightwing, soulless axxholes yesterday, each followed by my comments in brackets. - Give children bullet-proof backpacks. 1 Senator even suggested parents should buy children those instead of toys.  (They don’t wear backpacks in school. How about full bulletproof clothing? Why not give them full body armour? Heck, after your abortion laws have passed, make baby body armour compulsory - straight from the womb to safety). - why can’t we have security like at airports - with full body and backpack screening? (Well, the US has around 5000 airports, and about 150000 schools. They can’t even find enough miserably paid TSA personnel for the airports - good luck for the schools. Of course, since red states are banning books, and firing teachers who dare to mention black or gay people, maybe that money saved can be used to finance those scanners and the people to man them) - From Dan ...

Supreme Qourt and Abortion

So, irrespective of what one thinks about the moral dimension of abortion, let me say for the 127th time.  For the GQP, the Talibangelicals, and unfortunately for a large part of the so-called “pro-life” movement,   life begins at conception and ends at birth .  After all, these same pro-life people are all for the death penalty. And the same crowd has opposed any help to poor mothers and their children. Is it a wonder that the rich US has maternal mortality and child mortality rates 4 times as high as Western Europe, and in at least one of those 2, rates worse than countries like Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan or Iran. In fact, Texas has a maternal mortality rate double that of Iran. So much for hypocrites being pro-life. Most of the red states that have restricted abortion and are ready to ban it after the Qourt rules also spend the least amount of money on expectant mothers or their children after they are born (if they don’t die in the process). There is...
